We are often asked why would you build an 18 room country Inn of such high quality in Geauga County? Well, it all started when I Gordon Safran was thinking about retirement as President of the 42 store E.B.Brown Optical chain. I attended a seminar where everyone in the room was like me, Executives in their early 60’s. The Instructor asked, “How many people here wish they were doing something else for a living?” and almost every hand went up. So I came home to Evie and to her big surprise said “Let’s build a country Inn.” So in 1996 I sold E.B.Brown and because I always loved the view of the picturesque Cuyahoga River Valley in Burton I chose a wooded lot next to Century Village. It took me a year to persuade the absentee owner to sell it. (That’s a whole other story.) Then the town of Burton took a year to approve the zoning. An Amish crew was chosen and they did a great job, but every time there was a wedding or a funeral in their community they were all gone for the day. It took 10 months to construct, and opened in March of 1999. Now you know why our favorite lodging spot, and hopefully yours, was built in Burton, Ohio.

The Inn Manager…..
I am originally from Parma, Ohio and have a wealth of experience in the Hospitality industry; I started working in the business at the young age of 19. I managed large hotel chains for several years and decided that I was ready for a change and found the Red Maple Inn. Prior to starting in October of 2000 I was the General Manager of the Hampton Inn & Suites in Streetsboro, Ohio. The original Innkeepers, John and Sallie Cwik, were instrumental in creating the relaxed, personal atmosphere that graces the Inn today. I have become familiar with all of things the area has to offer and have served the community as a member of the Burton Chamber of Commerce and Geauga County Tourism. I think of the Red Maple Inn guests and staff as family and friends and have come to enjoy the simple country way of life working at the Inn provides. I look forward to many years to come and in making sure your stay is as enjoyable as possible.
